This RAMBO brings up a lot of interesting quandaries about the ethics of action movies:
1) Is it morally right to create exciting action sequences out of the seeds of real tragedies and brutalities?
2) Is it still fun if the civilian body count far outweighs that of the villainous?
I'm not saying RAMBO offended me. Far from it. I'm not Roger Ebert. I went into this film expecting to laugh my ass off from all of the supposed ridiculousness. However, Sylvester Stallone, perhaps sensing that many would enter with my mindset, gives the film a much darker tone and raises all of the aforementioned questions about action movie ethics.
It's bloody and intense, definitely, but don't be expect to be thrilled or excited by it. Instead, expect to constantly question what is being put onscreen in front of you.
I didn't expect to be this challenged by a RAMBO flick. Bravo, Monsieur Stallone. Bravo.

1) "Z" is an exciting action thriller that was based on an actual political assassination, and that question was raised at the time in almost every review. I think it all depends on the handling.
2) No. This helped ruin the movie "Face-Off" for me. It seemed as if the hero (John Travolta) was making things worse by the way he went after the villain (Nicholas Cage), doing nothing but precipitating lots of violent confrontations in which practically the entire population of Los Angeles appeared to be wiped out.
