GUILTY PLEASURES, Barbra Streisand's latest CD, her second collaboration with Barry Gibb (featuring a non-stop explosion of instantly disposable pop shlock) has plummeted to # 30 in its third week on the Billboard charts after debuting at # 5. Last week it dropped to # 12.
Let's face it, she's no Kelly Clarkson.

Maybe something a little less - ummm - dull - would be a nice perk for her - the thing drones on !

Did you expect otherwise? It's That STreisand Woman, you know!
I looked at the cover and thought it was the portrait of Dorian Grey.
I have it...liked it on 2 listenings, but have not listened to since. There is certainly no 'Woman in Love' on it...

If only she'd mixed in an Abba sample. That woulda brought the kids in. Provided "the kids" are somewhere between 40 and death.

Something pathetically sad about 60+ year olds vying for a portion of the disposable income of children.

Yes, well, Madonna has kids to put through school. And it's gotta be pretty costly to live in that house during the era known as Madonnapause.
Wow, you really hate the Madonna song. haha

I agree - but what I'm thinking of is every mid-to-upper-level manager in these Corporate States of America.
...because debuting at #5 when you're 63 and have been making albums for fourty years is tanking? guys, what did you expect? how is it fair to say it's "tanking" when it never really had the prospects of hitting #1? she's not 20-something, there's no hit single, she's doing next to no publicity for it, and yet you are all standing in line waiting for it to fall to #30 so you can cast the first stone. "no let it be me! let ME say 60 year olds shouldn't make records!" "no, no, it's my turn to diss a legend, let meee!" why do we have to be bitchy when we could focus on other things, instead? no, this isn't her greatest album. so what? why make a thread celebrating it?
I'm a Streisand fan from way back but have no interest in this new CD. She should revisit what she does best, like on her early albums

Personally, I don't care whether it goes to quadruple platinum or plummets to the $5.00 bin in a matter of weeks. I stopped buying Babs' stuff a number of years ago because her choice of material has generally been not to my taste, in her later years. As I never owned "Guilty" why would I buy this? I simply have no interest. Call me a fool, and a fuddy-duddy, but I'd be happier buying her TV specials on DVD, than spending money on this recording. The taste displayed on the choice of material for those programs is far, far superior to anything she could possibly sing written by Barry Gibb. It's sad.
I adore Barbra, but this one and her movie album one are not some of her best works.
I would love to see her team up with some newer/younger artists and see what developes. She did great duets with Josh Grobin, and back in like 1996/97 with Celine Dion.
José pretty much nailed it. The woman has supreme talent, but with every new release the vocal rewards get fewer and fewer. One has to sift through so much indegestible pap to find the few songs whic are worthy of her talent. Yet when one sees those two early TV specials (coming to your DVD player very soon) MY NAME IS BARBRA and COLOR ME BARBRA they remain vibrant and fresh - it's hard to imagine that network television once broadcast shows that were THAT classy.
I like TheaterBaby's idea, but I'd also like to see Barbra follow Audra's example and explore the newer generation of Broadway songweriters who are writing incisive, adult songs that would give more scope to the "actress who sings" of forty years ago.
Streisand still has it in her to create a beautifully orchestrated and carefully chosen CD of such new material. She needs to take chances.

I think the only reason she records at all is her contractual obligation, don't you?
i wanna hear her do R&B Aretha has nothing on Babs
Yeah, but if she really didn't feel like recording anything, she could just settle with Columbia. I don't think she cares that much at all except as ego gratification.
And for all her posturing behind a camera on the MOVIE ALBUM cover, she's given every indication that she's lost all interest in directing as well. "Prince of Tides"? Been there, done that. Oh, I can't find JUST that right project, y'know? La La La.
