I've been living in NY my entire life and can't imagine myself anywhere else. The energy of the city is thrilling and it lends itself to the shows. New York is where it all started, in regards to professional theater in the original colonies and once the Times made the move from Longacre Square to "Times Square" population began moving past 14th Street and theater boomed.
There is so much history in the theaters in New York and it always has, and always will be, the definition of theater.

That's a great reponse, n69n.
For me personally -- there's just nothing like being in NYC, and opening up a playbill, and thrilll of walking through NYC afterwards, when everyone else getsout. I just love it.
If you want to feel like you're in New York, piss in the toilet and throw some pretzels in. Close your eyes, and you're in Times Square.
Huh?
I was referring to the joke that NY smells like piss and pretzels.
I don't live in the city, but I feel like I should- I just love it, even with the piss and pretzels. The thrill of the city draws me to it; I know where the hell I am and how to get places. I would be perfectly content to live and/or work in the city.
As for seeing plays in the city, Times Square and the excitement of seeing the marquees did it for me when I was younger. Absolutely mystifying and beautiful.
You even have to ask? I was in the city for a total of 15 minutes before I knew I had to move at least within daily driving distance.

I've seen plays in London and Paris and they were pretty exciting.
I also saw a play in Billings, Montana and well...the less said about that the better.
What were you doing in Billings, Montana? On second thought, don't answer that.

Then move here.

I wish I could! I have a year and a half left in HS, then college with a major in Musical Theatre, and then it's NYC for me! At least, that's how things look from my point of view...my parents? Not so much!
They don't want me so far from home, but I'm gone the minute I graduate.

D2, if you'd read my bio for BroadwayWorld, you'd know exactly why I was in Billings, Montana.

Gotcha! Thanks, Dollypop. That's a great reason to be in Billings, congrats!

While in Billings, I also attended a fashion show. The warm-hearted ladies opened up a J.C. Penney's catalogue and pointed to the newest fashions. Meanwhile the audience munched on beef jerky and Ritz crackers. I thought it was a novel concept.
And that's why I love to travel. To Europe.

It has always been a dream and fantasy of mine to live in New York City. I certainly do love to travel there. Even the nasty smells are pleasant to me (that's gross I know). However, I don't want to set myself up for failure. It is a great city, but I don't know if I can make it there. It takes work and determination and willingness I believe (correct me if I am wrong) I don't know, and I don't think I should have to know what I want to do with my life at sixteen. I'm just taking life as it comes. Hopefully one day I can live there and be successful.
Jeez, it doesn't smell THAT bad here!
Fabrizio, over 8 million people live here - what makes you think you couldn't live here happily and successfully?

Well I know I could live happily. I guess the 8 million people reminder brings some light to the successful lifestyle--
And if you want to spend your parent's money, this is the place to spend it.
[Sorry, I couldn't resist that one. It has, after all, become a legendary post.
