I've taken it from Manhattan to Newark at rush hour, with a wheelie bag, when a cab would have been stuck in traffic. It's New Jersey Transit and it couldn't be cheaper or easier.
And I love monorails! Just like Disney World!

Get in a cab at LaGuardia and say 'take me to Manhattan.'
Works everytime :)

The Air Tran runs only as late as NJ Transit does--or as early for that matter.
You can take Amtrak but it is far more expensive.
Go online and check the schedule from the Newark Airport Station to Penn-NY.
It is a breeze and will change the way you go to the airport.

I have taken it Dame. From what I hear, a cutie like you may be in trouble if traveling alone too late.
You take NJTransit from Port Authority to Newark Airport stop. The monorail is right there, or only a minute or two wait at the most. It's also included in the price you pay for your NJ Transit ticket. No additional monorail fee. It's all clean and safe.

Once you are esconced on the train it is 20 minutes to the city. The monorail ride is quite short.
The unknown is how long you will have to wait on the platform between monorail and NJ Transit.
You'll love it. Hussies usually do....
