Posted: 9/21/08 at 12:56pmI don't believe you. Somebody is holding you hostage and making you say you're not in Nigeria. This is going to be W's Iran Hostage Crisis.

Posted: 9/21/08 at 1:00pmI get a lot of Nigerian email scams that are in German. BAD German. I have no idea how the scammers know that I speak German... I've never gotten one in English or any other language.

Yeah, but this involves someone having hacked into an email account I've had for years. They changed the password and now control it and I've lost all access to six years worth of mail. And everyone I've ever sent email to or received email from has gotten a message from me claiming that I'm stranded in Nigeria, and to please send money.
It's a bummer.

Posted: 9/21/08 at 1:10pmOh wow... that's absolutely terrible. I thought when you made the thread that you were just making fun of all of those emails that claim NOT to be Nigerian scams. Yikes, I hope this gets cleared up soon.

I'm so sorry, iflit... and I'm curious too. Where did you have your online email account?
Yahoo? Gmail? Mac?
Not that this couldn't happen to any one of them.

Wow. You AND Sarah in the same week!
It was kinda spooky, I admit. I've gotten those Nigeria emails before, but never from YOU!

Posted: 9/21/08 at 2:43pmI thought you went there, mistakenly, for Namo's birthday.

Posted: 9/21/08 at 2:46pmI also thought that maybe you were trying to be funny, so I actually read the entire message all the way through, waiting for the punchline. But, alas, it was just like all the other "I'm in Nigeria, please send money" letters I have received for the past 30 years!

Posted: 9/21/08 at 3:19pmCouldn't you contact the email provider and have them take back your account?
Wanting life but never knowing how

That's scary iflit!
Yeah, can't you cancel the e-mail account somehow?

It was gmail. And there seems to be no real mechanism by which to deal with it. When I tried to log in and couldn't, I checked the box that said "this account has be compromised" and the next screen that pops up basically says, "gee, we're sorry that happened". I am invited to try to log in again in 5 days, but since I no longer control the password or the secondary email account, it's not going to matter.
I've learned a lesson and will now stick to an account that I pay for and has an actual person somewhere on the other end.
So, Ms P...when should I expect that check?
