What are you doing this summer? Oklahoma City University is offering many performance and instrumental summer camps for students of all ages and all backgrounds.

We offer a variety of camps for students of all levels. Camps are taught by OCU professors and associates. You get the same training as our music majors. Scholarships are available.

Here are the OCU Summer Stars Camps:

Art Song Institute (June 17-24)

For rising 9th through college students. Focuses on classical voice training. Classes on vocal technique, repertorie, diction... plus private lessons. Students participate in a final recital. There are audition requirements. A residence camp with students living in OCU's on-campus Cokesbury Court Apartment Complex, with air conditing and swimming pool.

Rising Stars High School Musical Theater Camp (June 25-July 15)

Rigorous college prepatory experience for those who wish to persue music in college or in the professional world. Daily classes in piano, music theory, acting and dance. Master Classes in the afternoon include career preparation, audition technique and voice classes. Evenings are rehearsals for a fully staged production of "Babes In Arms" (the show that gave us such classics as "My Funny Valentine", "Where or When" and "Johnny One Note"). There are audition requirements. Students live in OCU's Cokesbury Court Apartment Complex.

(note: Interested students can participate in the Art Song Institute and then stay for the High School Musical Theater Camp which starts immediately at the end of the Art Song Institute!)

Junior Stars Musical Theater Camps (July 1-15)

This residence camp for rising 6th through 9th graders will teach musical theater skills for those of varying levels. Over 100 hours of instruction in acting, singing and movement culminating in a fully staged prodiuction of "Godspell, Jr". Students live at OCU's Cokesbury Court Apartment Complex.

Strings Camp (May30-June 2)

Offering Suzuki violin and guitar for ages 3 through 9. Intermediate and advanced students will receive classes in theory, ear training, musicianship and repertorie. Audition requirements for advance violin and cello students. Advanced cello and violin students may reside in Cokesbury Court.

Brass Camp (July 24-29)

For rising 9th through rising 12th graders who want to increase proficiency on their instrument. Participants will learn warm ups, breathing exercises, musicianship and ear training. Each participant will receive a CD of Oklahoma All-State etudes. Audition requirements. Students can live at OCU' Cokesbury Court.


Percussion Camp (June 26-30)

For rising 6th through rising 12th graders, classes will focus on technique and ensemble playing. Participants also receive private lessons. All participants receive a CD of Oklahoma All-State percussion audition music. Audition requirements. Students can live at OCU's Cokesbury Court.

OCU has one of the best summer programs in the nation. I had a friend who went last year and had an amazing experience. She had gone to NYU the year before and said OCU beat them hands down.

The Rising Stars High School camp will not be doing "Babes In Arms". The show has been switched to "Bye Bye Birdie"!
