OCU or Webster Conservatory?

Posted: 4/19/07 at 1:05pmI really need some help in deciding between the 2. OCU doesn't have a senior showcase and is not a conservatory, but is so reputable in the Music Theater world, but so is Webster. I don't know what to do.

OCU hands down. Just look at the successful graduates (Krisin, Kelli O'Hara, Stacy Logan, Ron Raines) and they have the new $38 million music center that's the best in the US (it was just opened this year).
Did you audition and were accepted? OCU is known as one of the hardest schools to get into for mMt.

I'm going to OCU. The new building is gorgeous. I really liked the faculty and students and talent. When I auditioned in March the choir was even rehearsing and it was awesome to listen to (we could walk in and watch if we wanted).
I have no idea about Webster though. Don't know anything about it, but wish you luck in choosing. It's obviously more important to choose what fits you better.

It really depends on what your looking for. It comes down to conservatory vs. regular college.
I will say though that I had 3 friends leave OCU last year b/c they felt it was'nt challenging enough and they felt that they were not growing enough as a performer.
I would visit both schools though before you decide.
P.M. If you have any questions.

Posted: 4/20/07 at 9:02pmConsidering that you have to pass your vocal and acting audition to get into OCU, I think the acting plays a big part. And it also plays a big part for your scholarship. I talked to their admission dept. months ago and that's what it said. The same would be for any other big school like NYU or Boston Conservatory.

Posted: 4/21/07 at 10:23ami am partial to webster just because i loved it so much when i visited it, but i have to second rachel. i know of 2 people who left last year because they hated it. and if you are looking at alumni, how about webster's norbert leo butz, jerry mitchell, and huntere bell (responsible for
but. make your decision based on your gut feeling. i just learned that no matter who you ask, you will get a pretty balanced list for both schools. find an aspect of a program that means a lot to you and pick the school that has it. go with your gut, always!!!!1

I find it very "interesting" that two of the posters here knowpwople who "left" OCU.
The funny thing is I asked my friend who goes to OCU...there were not three (or two..depending on which "member" you believe) who left OCU. One egotistical girl was suggested to leave cause she complained that she didn't get cast in any shows her freshmen year. Of course, Miss Talent left OCU and went to AMDA which says everything.
So..before you trust our "members" and their stories, make sure you actually get the real story from the school. I tell you, if someone leaves OCU, good luck finding a better program. And OCU will be the better for it.

emonade. Did those 2 people you know leave OCU or Webster because they hated it?
I've decided on Webster. It's a conservatory (no math, english or history (and OCU is BIG on history)), I can minor in dance, and there's a senior showcase. Although as a freshman you're not allowed to perform in any mainstage productions (but that's okay because I can dance with the company) and there's a bit of a cut system (but I'm not worried about that). The tap is stronger and there are more levels of dance at OCU but that's not much of a problem because St. Louis has it's annual tap festival every year and Webster is an accredited dance program so I'm sure I'll be challenged. Thanks for all your advice guys and emonade and rachel I can't wait to meet you guys! Rachel we are already friends on Facebook, but emonade do you have a facebook?

I love it. Norbert and Jerry Mitchell are as well known as Kristin and Kelli.
That one university has produced the two leading female stars of Broadway says it all.
Good luck at Webster. Hope you made the right choice.
