Posted: 8/28/05 at 1:51amso i don't have to create another thread-because i assume thats what this thread is for-i'm auditioning for my school's acapella groups and i need help with choosing a song. the groups tend to sing more popular music and i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a song that would be good for this sort of thing. my range is a low E to a high G. i just need to prepare 16 measures. thanks for the help!

Would "Meadowlark" be considered overdone?
*Not trying to be sarcastic, totally a serious question. I want to get some new songs prepared for auditions this year.

no, but I use Meadowlark all the time.
But I get a little offensive about this song for some reason. I think it's because it's not well known, not many people can sing this song good or great so it always had a place in my heart because it was a perfect audtion song for me if I'm trying out for a belting part of course. So I have always been very "this song is mine arghhh get off!!!!" Ah, but I need to get over that.

If you are really confident that you can perform a monologue/song perfectly and that is the right song for you, then by all means. I did a Nora monologue from Brighton Beach Memoirs and I did just fine. Just make sure you research what kind of character you are auditioning for. You don't want to do a Mama Rose type piece if you are auditioning for an ingenue type part. Thats from experience.
