I grew up near Dayton (now live in Chicago)
The cool thing about growing up in the Dayton area is that Ohio is too far west to be in the Eastern Time Zone, but since the B&O Railroad invented standard time, it is. Add daylight savings time on top of that and the result is that in the summer is doesn't get dark until like 11pm.
Here's another thing that's interesting in growing up in Ohio... at the High School I went to the three largest organizations were the ROTC, the Future Farmers of America, and the Young Republicans.
Between Kings Island and Cedar Point Ohio hands-down, no argument has the BEST rollercoasters in the World.
Sometimes I think if I could find work there, I'd move back.

I also grew up near Dayton. Went to Ohio State, but got out as soon as I graduated!
RodneyK - what hs did you go to? I went to Dixie (and yes it is still named Dixie, while I was in school I just wanted to yell & say hello, Ohio was and is part of the North!) They used to be called the Dixie Rebels, luckily it was changed to the Greyhounds. Of course the Rebel flag still hung in the gym when I went there and probably is still hanging there. It sickens me still to think of it.

I went to Tecumseh HS in New Carlisle.
Fortunately, the mascot of Tecumseh was (is) the Arrows.
I guess that's politically acceptable. Better and braves or redskins or something bad like that.
Funny thing is by Tecumseh's time the Shawnees were pretty much only using muskets.
Another funny thing is that on the class rings, etc. there was an Aboriginal American (which is technically more correct than 'native') in full headdress. Those things were pretty much only worn by the people of the plains, not by the Shawnee and Tecumseh himself usually wore a jacket similar to what the Continental Army wore.
If you're a theater type and are from the Dayton area, you're probably framilliar with a group called the Muse Machine. I was in two shows with them.

Muse Machine!! I was in the first 2 productions at the Victoria Theatre - Oklahoma & South Pacific. It was so much fun. Of course it made me realize I could never be a performer. My voice was never strong enough. But it was a great time and a great opportunity to perform in a real theatre rather than a high school gym or auditorium.

TECHNICALLY..
The first Muse Musical at the restored Victoria Theater was a show I was in called "The Muse Machine's Excellent Adventure" which was a parody of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" It included scenes/numbers from the first five Muse Machine Musicals (West Side Story, Fiddler, Carousel, Guys and Dolls (I was in that one as well), and The Wiz. The show did two peroformances during the second day of the Viva Victoria festival which reopened the theater. I was also in the opening night show which included Rob Lowe and Peter Schaffer (he wrote Amadaeus amoung other things)
I'm going to PM you my real name. Chances are we know each other! Wouldn't that be a hoot!
There is NOWHERE in the country where an annual musical is produced with only middle school and high school kids in the cast that is better than the Muse Machine Musical.
I was born and raised in Dayton. Lived there for about 21 years.
