I've been in bed for two days, coughing, aching, feverish, head pounding. I have high blood pressure so I can't take any cold medicine that works. I've taken some Aleve and sucked Halls to no avail. I know like 5 million people have had this flu- anyone got any tips?

I'm coming down with it now Joe. I'm seeing my doc tomorrow for some ant-biotics.

I'm so miserable I wouldn't even notice who's laying on hands. I guess I just have to stick to cough drops and orange juice. I've requested some sugar-free popsicles- hopefully that will ease the burning in my throat.
I agree Taz
Studies have shown that Omega 3 Fatty acids help to reduce swelling especially in combination with low doses of aspirin. It's also good to have a higher intake of it if you have cardiovascular problems. It might help alleviate the symptoms and help your immune system beat the bug. So either eat more fish or buy some fish oil supplements.
Joe, bring your head as close as you can to the screen and look straight into Kathryn's eyes. I'm sure you'll be feeling better in no time.
I suppose u could try to get some Tamiflu but considering they were stock piling it for the Avian Flu ( which MIGHT still come) don't know how much luck u'd have.Oh and try some EMERG EN C has lots of vitamins and minerals and stuff. Feel Bettah!
If you are a gym member, get yourself to the sauna (not steam) ASAP. Breathing in the hot, dry air will kill the virus that is residing in your sinuses and shorten the duration (I know from experience). Sit for 10-15 mins. and do so everydayif possible.
Also, try Oscillococcinum (I butchered the spelling of that). It's a homeopathic remedy that has worked wonders for me and friends of mine.
Sorry - if you have the flu, DO NOT go to the gym and share your little gift with others. Stay home, stay warm, stay hydrated.

Absolutely Phyllis. I'm sick now b/c one of my co-workers came in spreading her germs all over the place.

Yeah I caught this doozy from a broad at work. Her officemates are also out sick.
I stayed home, ran the shower a lot (To get moisture in the air) and tried to sleep as much as possible. Food sounded repulsive to me so I pretty much existed on Dannon Smoothies and sugar free popsicles. Fever broke last night and while I am still coughing so hard the cat is terrified of me, I feel worlds better today.

That's the worst thing about flu, you just have to ride it out. Short of analgesics, and antibiotics, it's just three to five days of sheer hell.
A good course of vitamins/minerals after the event, have always helped me in the past, flu literally drains the life force.
Feel better soon...
I'm going through it too - I can't seem to shake the thing. My trouble is during the day I feel well enough to cope, but then night comes and BAM - throat starts hurting (with the aching ear when I swallow) and nose is so stuffed I can't breathe. I've apparently grown immune to Nyquil's soporific effects - I need something to knock me out so I can sleep!
