OMG So I just got asked to SM (Stage Manage) the musical Carousel at my college for the spring semester and I'm freaking out. I'm sooo excited!!!!!!! I've stagemanaged alot before but I'm only a freshman and they've told me that they don't let freshman SM here which is totally understandable. So I guess they must be desperate because they did have an awesome SM who I assisted during the auditions and now they asked me to SM. I'm scared though too cuz there are a few things that I still need to get better on like taking blocking notes and also I dont know how to read music which I know I need to learn. Thank God I met this really cool lady here who is a SM and will probly give me more tips on being a better SM and the Production Stage Manager will help me too I'm sure. I really hope he finds me some ASMs thought, I was supposed to be the ASM for this show not the SM. Oh well, I'll stop babling now I'm just sooo excited even though it means alot more responsibilty on my part and having to balance my schedule moreso with my classes for next semester.
Oooo by the way if anyone else out there is a SM or has ever SMed Carousel and wants to give me any tips I'm always open to suggestions. I love to learn new ways of doing things! Thanks!
Don't know anything about stage managing and I don't know Carousel very well, but let me be the first to say, CONGRATULATIONS!!
You seem to grasp what you need to learn to make you a better SM... but let me just say, patience is the key. Actors are annoying and can't follow directions well to say the least. Also, don't have a concrete idea of how the show will turn out, because it should sort of be a collaborative effort, not just you. I've never seen Carousel so I don't have any more detailed advice, but congrats and good luck! Make sure to tell us how everything is going...

Hehe thanks EverythingIsRent and OneBlazeOfGlory, I'm excited. Yea I have the basics of stagemanaging down and yes I know what I need to learn so I'm working on it. We dont start rehearsals until February and then we open in April so I still have some time but I'll keep you updated!
congrats!!!
Oh yes, congratulations.
The first step of stage managing is to avoid run on sentences.
