It is amazing that NYS cannot pass a budget on time or deal with any of the numerous other matters on their plate. They can however jump thru hoops whenever OTB is threatened with closure. The politicians are worried about 1300 jobs but have not shed a tear for the multitude of regular joes who have lost their jobs due to the recession & NYS habit of tax & spend .
OTB has a rabbi in Albany. Nice to have people care about you so much when they thumb their noses at everyone else.

"OTB has a rabbi in Albany."
I have tried desperately not to jump on the anti-Roxy bandwagen for years - but does that actually say what I think it says?!?
OY!

Do not be so shocked. It is a common term. If I had a dime for every anti catholic blast on here, I would be living in Trump Tower. If I offended you, I apologize. Lest you think I am anti semitic, the Mrs is Jewish.
Chill out . No need to get on the anti Roxy bandwagon. It is overloaded already.

Posted: 4/17/10 at 10:42pmI'll grant the Catholic bashing - I'm probably in the top five practitioners on this site. BUT, it always has to do with the organization itself. Your comment seemed to imply that there was some untoward influence because of the Jewishness. That's a step in a different direction, at least to me.

I'm not a gambler, and have never really been able to wrap my head around anything it has to do with. Besides, it's a local issue, and I'm not local.
But I can't let something pass without comment - your assertion that your used phrase is "old as Dollypop" seems to fall into the "it's the way it's always been" category. I'm not much of a fan of holding onto the way things were simply because that's the way they've been. If something stinks, throw it out.
And saying your wife is Jewish, as if that excuses things, only makes me wonder about her perspective.

Do not wonder.
I do not take it personal that you, by your own admission, bash the church regularly. It is your opinion. Getting in a dither over this only proves people these days have incredibly thin skins. You can bash the church but I make an innocuous remark & I am the bad guy. No one is the bad guy here.
Not to worry about Mrs R. She understands my religion & I hers. I am religious & she is not. This term does not bother her in the slightest.

Posted: 4/19/10 at 12:08amThose Jews are really something, eh Roxy? It's nice the Mrs. don't get all up in arms about a little good natured name-calling and apparently you think it's a religious thing and not a cultural thing and apparently neither does she but OH! Those Jews! They are so CHEAP! And so loud. You know, at the schvitz you can't hear yourself think for the Jews.

Roxy, I have a question to ask you along the lines of your way of thinking on this one.
During the presidential election members of my family were begging my grandmother (staunch Democrat by the by) to vote for Obama rather then not voting for anyone at all. Her reason to not vote for him? Because he is black. That whole notion was just something that at first didn't sit right with her.
Now, since you say that the term you use is an old one and therefor okay to use due to that fact, was it also okay for my grandmother to have that line of thinking as to why she wouldn't vote for someone? No, of course not. But, I wouldn't consider her a racist I would however consider her to be a product of her time.
