"But we are committed to the goal of a retooled, reimagined auto industry that can compete and win. Millions of jobs depend on it. Scores of communities depend on it. And I believe the nation that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it."
I think Karl Benz of Germany would argue that point.

Quick - let's get him impeached for it, Gothampc!
He made a mistake - and one that is quite common MANY pundits have said - republican and democrat alike...
We may not have invented the automobile.. but we perfected manufacturing and assembly since the assembly line WAS invented/created here in the US.
The USA (unless I'm mistaken) was the first to mass produce cars. And I believe that was really his point last night.
But good nitpicking if that's ALL you can muster!

As usual Craig, you miss the point. His speech was pre-written. It would have taken 10 seconds for someone to fact check it.
And no, it's not nitpicking to say a country "invented" the automobile and a country "mass produced" the automobile.

As usual? LOL
You're funny Gothampc.
Shall I dig up the thousands of errors Bush and every Republican president every made during a speech? The question is rhetorical. I don't "argue" like you...
I missed no point.

America reinvented the automobile and essentially invented the modern car we know today: one that is mass-produced and available to the general population.
And take a look at what Obama is doing for the automobile:
" The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act contains approximately $80 billion in funding for promoting energy efficiency, renewable energy, and higher-mileage cars.
Specifically, that means:
$25 billion for energy efficiency
$20 billion for renewable energy incentives
$11 billion in grants and $6 billion in loans to modernize the electric grid and increase its capacity to deliver power generated by renewable sources, and
$17.7 billion for mass transit, Amtrak, and high-speed rail.
The significance of this funding for putting America on the path to a clean-energy economy can't be overstated." The Sierra Club Newsletter
