"STAGECOACH, though. Wow. I saw that one only within the last few years, and was just blown away. Absolutely perfect in pretty much every way. And I hate hate HATE Westerns."

I hate most of them too. They're usually so horribly skewed to making all the Injuns (played mostly by white actors in bad makeup) look like evil villains. Any western pre-'70s come across as pretty clueless and dated today. Glorifying the white hero of the west.

As you can see from my list, I've missed a few biggie Westerns. And I've tried High Noon a few times, and I get bored so quickly with it I turn it off. It just looks like a very special episode of "Gunsmoke" to me.

Others I admit missing:

Goonies
The Searchers
Frida
The Berkeleys of Broadway (the only Fred & Ginger I haven't seen!)
Ocean's 11, 12, & 13 (the recent ones)
Blade Runner
Pride & Prejudice (the recent one, but I've seen many others)
Atonement
"Jaws is the Citizen Kane of movies."

Best, agreed. Most Westerns before LITTLE BIG MAN come across rather unpleasantly in their treatment of Native Americans. STAGECOACH isn't so much about the Indian Question as something like THE SEARCHERS. Give it a shot, and have some patience with it, it really does work beautifully. Funny, sharp, and surprisingly subversive.

Often I'll watch a movie for one or two reasons alone (it may otherwise be mediocre to bed) . That is why I bought How the West Was Won on blu-ray - the unusual and spectacular cinematography - the story line itself is as you say about westerns, besty. God-awful!. And High noon is a good one to see for some outstanding b&w cinematography.

OK then, I've never seen

Toy Story
Shrek

Oh, and a western recommendation, these put the American westerns to shame:
the two film epic

The Emigrants('71) and The New Land ('72) directed by Jan Troell

Swedish titles Utvandrarna & Nybyggarna
