Posted: 2/4/06 at 8:36pmI get disturbed...on My Space I'm always getting random messages from guys asking to meet up, chat sometime, and they all look just...creepy. Yes, I know I'm putting my pictures online, and yes, I am an adult...so just gotta be careful.

What's very intriguing to me is that nobody ever says, "And so, I stopped going to My Space." Or, what's the responsibility of My Space in these equations.
Not that I don't think anybody shouldn't be able to go wherever they want online, but how much do reports of TV network entrapment make people feel the illusion of being safer when the number of actual would-be predators apprehended is probably .00001 of the people out there doing it for real?

I would not think this makes people feel any safer.
If anything, I would think it would scare the hell out of parents and some kids.
Hopefully, it would also scare some predators away from engaging in the conduct.

So is it MySpace's fault that these people are able to do this? They existed before Myspace.
Namo, you seem to have a lot of issues with this method, but you can't come up with anything better. Does that make them right? Maybe not. But at least they're doing something about the problem instead of just complaining.

Namo, what would you like to see done? How can we "morally" stop these people? Someone said call the cops when it happens, not have the cops setting them up (or words to that effect). If a child is under the illusion that this person loves them or is interested in them they will not see them as a threat and wouldn't call the cops. I think that parents should be more involved, but how do you as a parent keep tabs on everything that your teen does and not invade their "privacy" and make the kids get defensive? How do you keep tabs on what they do at friends' houses? You can't be there 24/7. My parents were extremely strict with me, but they still had no clue what was going on with me all the time.
This is a problem, and while it may not be the completely "honest" way to go about it, I would prefer these methods if it protected even one child.

See I am one of the few people that defends MySpace. If yo uhave common sense MySpace is not dangerous at all. INtelligent people put the closest big city as their city, do not post what school they go to and block creepy people who contact them.
The internet is just like real life, if you have common sense, you are fine! This special just freaks out parents but they need to teach their children how to be safe on the Internet.
And was I the only one who noticed that it was really weird that the offenders were answering all of the guys questions? They were complletely incriminating themselves
