I thought this was a production coming to Broadway.
Oprah as Evita
Hugh Jackman as Che
Taye Diggs as Peron
Sutton Foster as the Mistress
Roger Bart as Magaldi
I recently saw a hilarious SNL parody of the Oprah Show, but after seeing clips from the car episode I've realized that the SNL version was no exaggeration.
Glebb, your posts remain a highight. (I'm still howling at Bea B. vs. June L. What a singular sense of nostalgia you possess. I doff my cap -- the one worn in MY MOTHER THE CAR. Ann Southern vs. Julie Cavner? How about Bill Bixby vs. Fred McMurray.)

Thanks ever so Auggie! You're so kind. :)
I love Ann Southern BTW. Need to see "Maisie".
Oh God, Glebb, I still remember Ms. Southern from my home-sick-from first grade days, as the star of the B&W "Susie." With Don Porter as her boss? Anyone else here from those just-before-WONDER years?
Now, what about Gale Storm?
Gale Storm vs. (I dunno) Kathleen Nolan? No. Glebb, bail me out.
Auggie, looks like you've given me some homework to do, as I was introduced to Ms Southern on The Lucy Show.
But, this is the kind of homework I like!
She didn't pay for all those cars....so based on that I wouldn't consider her generous.

She did decide on a whim to give 50000 dollars to a charity yesterday. I'd call that generous. Even if she wipes her a#@ with that money each day.
I was just a bit crazed from watching the whole scene and I got cynical.
Any which way it happened I guess it was a very generous action and Oprah did make those laides very happy.
I think it was a great marketing ploy for both Oprah and Pontiac. Pontiac donated the cars and got publicity that may help their sagging sales by assocaiting their product with Oprah. Oprah is seen as the wonderful, generous peron who gave away a bunch of cars. Everyone wins. It was a very smart move on the part of the company and Oprah. It also helps out those women who got the cars.

I have to admit I'm a little confused as to how this could be interpretted as a bad thing. Is the implication that it shouldn't have occurred?
I don't think people see it as a "bad" thing - I think their point is that she shouldn't be getting all the credit because she didn't personally pay for all those cars.
However, I'm sure she or her producers came up with the idea and made it happen, in which case, she deserves all the credit she gets.
I don't see it as a bad thing at all. I know that Oprah's generous...I'm just answering the question...based on this episode I wouldn't say she was being generous as she didn't personally pay for all those cars.
I think it's great that all those people who desperately needed a car got one for free!
Am I being too defensive?
