I think it's only happened twice in the history of the Awards, Joe, where 3 actors have been nominated for a single film in one category:
Best Actor for Mutiny on the Bounty (Gable, Laughton, Tone) and Best Supporting Actor for The Godfather (Pacino, Caan, Duvall).
Unless it starts to happen a lot, they wouldn't do that. But Actors are already limited to one nomination per acting category. So if an actor gave two really great supporting performances in two different films, he can only be nominated for one of them. The one he got the most votes for. The second nomination would be disqualified. That rule has been in place since the late '30s, I believe. Early on, you'll see Garbo nominated for 3 films in the same category, etc. They also don't allow an actor to get two nominations for the same performance, ever since Barry Fitzgerald got enough votes as Best Actor AND Best Supporting Actor for his work in Going My Way. They changed the rule a year later in 1945. Today, if he got the votes, they would only give him the nomination in the category that he got the most votes in, and the second nomination would be thrown out.

That cult-trendy boring song was the only song nominated worth listening to.
