We're doing THE SECRET GARDEN.
What are some good roles for a male singer (tenor) who can carry a tune well but isn't the strongest singer/dancer?
In relation to the rest of the performers in your school's theater program, would you say you play the older more mature roles or the younger roles?
The main lead roles are Dickon, Colin, Dr. Craven, and Arcibald(I think that's his name..lol) Colin is usually played by a young boy, and is almost a boy soprano more than a tenor. Dickon may be a good part for you, as none of his songs are very challenging. Sometimes he does do a good amount of dancing, depending on the choreographer/director, but Secret Garden is Not a Heavy dancing show. The other two leads have some songs which are somewhat more demanding than Dickon's, although (I think) Dr. Craven is a tenor..... There are some smaller guys roles which are spotlighted, but I do not think they are tenors. Good Luck at your auditions!
Dr Craven is a baritone role. Archibald is the tenor part.
Thanks!!
I'm usually cast in the younger roles. I was "Dill" in To Kill A Mockingbird. I have a real young look.
Seems like Dickon is the role for me.
Thanks!!
If the show is staged the way it should be (and this opinion is shared by the woman who wrote the show before anyone attacks me), expect some movement. Just be light on your feet, lead with your heart (chest) and stay low to the ground. Dickon is a child of nature. He can hear the flowers bloom, and see and hear things no other character can! I played Dickon recently and it was a ton of fun!
