This brings back such memories. I was driving to pick up my prom date, Zoe, who lived out in the boondocks. It was a miserable rainy night. As I was driving down this dark, uninhabited road, I noticed a girl in a prom dress standing in the rain, trying to flag me down. I stopped to see if I could help. She asked for a ride. Her car had broken down on a small lane that shot off a little further back on this road. She was on her wy to teh prom also. Her pink chiffon gown was soaked and all but a few petals of the white orchid around her wrist had been blown away by the wind.
She got in we started talking. She said her name was Sarah Simmons and she was supposed to met her date at the entrance to the scholl gymnasium. She was very concerned that she was late, maybe too late, she wondered if he might still be waiting after all this time.
After about a mile she told me to pull over. Not knowing what was going on, I did as she asked. We were in front of a small graveyard that had long been forgotten. Sarah jumped out of teh car and ran through teh gates of teh cemetary. I chased after her but lost site of her as soon as I got through the gate.
Eventually went off, leaving Sarah, and picked up Zoe. I stareted to tell her the story when she interrupt and asked
"Did she have a pink chiffon gown and a white orchid corsage?"
"yes" I cried "do you know her?"
"Sure" she replied "everyone knows the story of Sarah Simmons. She died in a car accident on her way to the prom twenty years ago on that very road where you picked her up. She is buried in that old cemetary."
That was quite an experience. I'll never forget it. I get goosebumps even now when I think of it.
