I LOVE the Ma and Pa Kettle movies!
Yay, Marjorie and Percy! Talk about movie franchises.
I love when they win their "ultra modern" house, and the whole brood moves in!
It's funny to see what passed for "ultra modern" back then.
That's my favorite one too Best. Do they even show these movies anymore?
They don't show up very often on TV anymore because they're owned by Universal. That studio doesn't have its own regular TV channel, so they "rent" their old movies out to TCM and the like. If only Ted Turner would buy up the back catalog, like he did with MGM, Warner Bros. & RKO, then we'd see them all the time.
They WILL show up from time to time... just not as much.
I just bought the DVDs a while back, since they were cheap enough. My partner loves 'em too... so I gave them to him as a gift one year.
Two volumes of all their films... eight total, I think.

I love Marjorie Main! My favorite line is when she talks about all the kids being lazy like Pa- "Except for Tom, who don't take after Pa one bit! Sort of makes me....wonder."
How could you not love a face like that?
Marjorie rightfully scored an Oscar nomination for her first appearance as Ma Kettle in "The Egg and I."
Pure genius, and it's still hilarious stuff, even now.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! The Ma and Pa Kettle Movies!
Why hasn't anyone tried to remake them? That family was deliciously unsophisticated. But you NEVER looked down on them.
The films - I think accidentally- had something to say about living life when basic needs meet. Very anti-commericialism.
I see Tyne Daly or Kathy Bates as Ma.
Well, it's hard for me to picture anyone but Marjorie and Percy, but I love playing casting!
MA:
Tyne
Kathy
Meryl Streep (because she could do it, and probably would do it!)
Frances McDormand
Patricia Clarkson
Mary Kay Place
PA:
Billy Bob Thornton
Steve Buchemi (sp?)
David Strathairn
Meryl Streep as MA KETTLE!!! Lovin' It!
and what a great compliment to the memory of Marjorie Maine.

Streep as Ma = Genius!
How about Joel Grey as Pa?
Sure!
I'd actually kill to see Meryl recreate Marjorie's part in THE WOMEN. I want to see that yawn at the beginning of the movie.
Loving Marjorie in THE HARVEY GIRLS!
This would be a good month to revive the Ma and Pa Kettle films as Miss Marjorie is one of this month's angels.
How about Ma & Pa Kettle The Musical?
Nathan could play Pa & Rosie plays Ma.
Or the other way around!
