Take your pill, Elphaba.

Sweetie, take it from someone who did the pageant thing (albeit briefly) - spend the time and money you're thinking of spending on dresses, heels, lipstick, learning a silly "poise" routine, and doing endless sit-ups; and instead spend that time researching scholarships, honing your writing skills, and thinking up kick-butt college entrance essay topics.

You will never, ever regret it. If you want to sing and dance for prize money, get in a talent show and be amazing and I will wish you the best. But spending your time practicing a stiff wave and a fake smile... well, that's just a waste.

The current Miss America, Kirsten Haglund, is also a musical theatre student.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

That's funny, Mistress, I was just gonna say that about wanting to be a performer.

Mistress has given really good advice. The current Miss America's Outstanding Teen is the daughter of NFL quarterback Mark Brunell. She is beautiful and talented but I thought this was supposed to be a pageant so girls could earn money for college. Her dad is a multi-millionaire! Also, the requirments are sponsorship and then you have to buy so many clothes. If you have the resources and connections, it is a way to be seen.
