I'll probably go to Ragtime (Paper Mill isn't too far away from me).

Papermill is kinda out of the way considering a Bway show is so conveniently close.

Paper Mill is great!

I am DYING to see Harold and Maude! Eric Millegan, who is starring in it, is fantastic!

Don't forget about She Loves Me...which starts rehearsals in a couple weeks in the city.

I now live close to it as well. Over the years, when I was in Manhattan, I saw some good stuff -- Betty Buckley's v. dark GYPSY, a musically rich RAGS, a decent CAROUSEL -- and some cheesy,i.e. the, uh, hustler verion of PIPPIN. I heard Estelle Parsons will be Maude. Interesting casting, no?

I agree -- some show up and down -- although I did love BB's Mama Rose -- there were parts of the show that were bone-chilling (especially Everthings coming up Roses)...my friend really didn't like it and I can understand -- his big point was she was so unlikeable -- (How would Herbie stay with her, etc), but I thought it was pretty damn good and interesting interpretation of the character....and she threw out one hell of a Rose's Turn (as well as the etire score)

Auggie -- as far as Gypsy, don't neglect to mention the divine Joe Machota as Tulsa.... and with Carousel, the scrumptiosly voiced Matt Bogart as Billy Bigelow!

You're right, KMF. The Buckley Rose was real dangerous, notable for her anger and the almost complete lack of humor -- or sense of humor. Even the Mr. Goldstone sequence was ... well, scary. Buckley tends to find the Medea in every role (and I mean that in the nicest sense, as Dame Edna would say) ... and if it was sometimes off-puting, well, Laurents wrote complexity into it--so it was a viable way to go with Rose. Yeah, it made Herbie into a masochist, and the girls were practically abused. But it explained the way Rose got results -- she was tenacious and could kick ass. There was none of that "oh, look at me, I'm really charming..." In a way, Buckley's chilly Rose was almost a deconstruction of the "diva" aspect of the character. It remains underforgettable, and I was a fan of Peters' spin -- at least a distant cousin to Buckley's, in that she got very much inside the woman's rage. Great that Papermill gave her a good production to try it out in -- wasn't it Debbie Gibson? Not bad, either.

it was Deborah Gibson Auggie -- I thought she was terrific -- I think that was right before she went on the Funny Girl tour..not bad for a teeneager who wrote songs and recorded them in her garage!
