Posted: 3/3/10 at 9:17pmHey, did anybody catch the premiere of Parenthood last night? I just watched it on Hulu, & I loved it! Very sweet & heartwarming. I totally teared up during the scene with Lauren Graham (Sarah?) & Drew when they were at the gas station. Did anybody else like it? Can't wait to continue watching :]

My interest is piqued. I am willing to give it another few episodes.
I'm very curious about Max (the youngest boy) and how they'll handle autism with him.
I'm also gonna call it now, that Drew is gay.

I was looking forward to it but the show lost me about half way through, and then the "problems" all seemed to surface during the last half hour of the show. Too many problems, if you ask me.
I'll stick with Modern Family. I don't need to see another drama about a disfunctional family.

Yea. They've got some great actors on the show.
I just got bored with it, and then they piled all the problems on right at the end.
I thought, 'Wow, there's the way to set things up. Just say it all in the first episode.'

I don't even think I lasted halfway. I stopped a few minutes in.
Love MODERN FAMILY. My Facebook is covered with hilarious quotes. Check it!

Posted: 3/4/10 at 8:45pmI love Modern Family too! Last night's episode was great. They're similar shows, but different in their own ways, which is why I like them. I haven't been watching any dramas lately, so I'm glad this came along. I'm sure the next episode will be different since they got all their problems out there, we've met all the characters, & the tedious first episode stuff out of the way.

Posted: 3/5/10 at 12:29amI just can't buy Lauren Graham as an actress and it's also hard to respect her after the debacle that GUYS & DOLLS was largely because of her misconceived Miss Adelaide. The show also feels like BROTHERS AND SISTERS redux...and we all know how that show went downhill after the first season or so. I agree, I'm sticking with MODERN FAMILY which I find hilarious and refreshing, give me Julie Bowen over Graham any day of the week.

Posted: 3/5/10 at 5:56pmi liked it, and it was nice to see someone with aspergers who wasn't portrayed as some sort of creep like a stalker, or like a serial killer, or a complete wierdo like most shows/movies show people with aspergers.

I liked it. I think the comparisons to Brothers & Sisters are silly, because it's not like Brothers & Sisters invented or even reinvented the family drama format. If anything, it has brought shame up on it with its awful awful writing.
I thought the kid having trouble with baseball (although for far more serious reasons) and the biracial love child showing up were nice nods to the original movie but that it stood on its own.

Posted: 3/7/10 at 12:00amIt didn't even occur to me that they were nods to the movie, but I see it now. Interesting.

Posted: 3/7/10 at 12:12amI see that now, too. You can see it in his response to his son when the little boy is on the playground. I think this show is going to be pretty good. I adore that movie.

I really liked it and I'm looking forward to next weekend. Of course, as soon as I heard my Avett Brothers in the opening sequence, I was won. But as the show went on, I enjoyed it even more. I thought that the aspergers storyline was very sweet and it will be nice to shed a different light on the disease. There were some very interesting ways that I think everything could unfold, and I hope that it unfolds in a way that isn't over the top.
As much as I love Lauren Graham for Gilmore Girls, I had a VERY hard time not thinking of her as "Lorelai". I know thats silly, but I am not used to her in a dramatic role. Perhaps it will just take some getting used to...

Posted: 3/7/10 at 1:47pmDidn't the Ron Howard Factory already try to make PARENTHOOD into a sitcom right after the movie came out? My mind seems to be flashing Ed Begley Jr.....?

Posted: 3/7/10 at 3:06pmYes, it was a short-live series that was created shortly after the movie. I only know this because it was one of Leonardo DiCaprio's first acting roles, playing Begley's son I believe. David Arquette was also in it.

I enjoyed the pilot. Nice homage to the original film, but different enough to break free of the original performances and characterizations.
I thought the kid having trouble with baseball (although for far more serious reasons) and the biracial love child showing up were nice nods to the original movie but that it stood on its own.
I liked that they basically took the same familial structure and social dynamics of the film and came up with new situations and a more modern sensibility. It definitely started off on the right foot an I hope it can gain some momentum. It would certainly be a welcome replacement for Brothers and Sisters, which has gone off the rails into the realms of daytime soap. If it weren't for the cast, I would have given up on it last season.
