(Forgive me for jumping the gun a bit, but I'm not going to be able to post this in the morning)
Some of the wonderfully talented ladies of the past who celebrated their birthdays in November. They're gone - but their contributions to the entertainment world will make them live forever in our hearts and our memories:
Absolutely gorgeous, as always. I can't believe it's been 5 years since Gloria Foster left us.
Breathtakingly, heartbreakingly gorgeous.
You even made Marie Dressler and Edna Mae Oliver look pretty.
Mamie--I think you should do a Passing Angels Daybook Calendar--a page-a-day with one of your photos and a little paragraph extolling their virtues as performers.
I would buy it!
I'm so glad you mentioned those two, PJ. You will never know how THRILLED I was to find that photo of Ms. Dressler. I'm probably prouder of finding that one photo more than any other one. (I've always loved Ms. Oliver's looks, so that was a no-brainer for me!)
I like the idea of having a way to say a word or two about these great ladies. Boobs has asked me to do the gentlemen next year and I do owe him. I'm just not sure I'll be able to find the photos I need to do them justice. To tell the truth, I started this thread because I kind of felt that this site was rather male-oriented and I wanted to give the ladies their just due. I started looking at January and had about 120 names and then gave up. So we'll have to see how it turns out.

It always take me by surprise. And then I see and say, "It's the first of the month already? And then I click on it, and the photos of Mamie's Angels are always SO beautiful.
And there will always be a really beautiful one, like the Marie Dressler, of a actress who was known for her funny looks, and by making someone like that beautiful, Mamie becomes an angel!
Here's what Marie Dressler looked like when she made the cover of Time magazine, so those of you who don't know her can see (a) what she looked like in Tugboat Annie and Min and Bill and (b) that she was a BIG deal and (c) how beautiful Mamie made her look.
And if you DON'T know her, rent Dinner at Eight!

Great job, Mamie! So many wonderful memories.......love the look on Vivian Blaine's face - her eyes say it all.
And then there's my beloved Vivien Leigh......
Thanks so much!
Vivien Leigh and Hedy Lamarr in the same month. It's almost more than I can take.
I love that picture of Geraldine Paige too. I try my hardest to stay away from picturing them in roles they played and that's why I chose (at the last minute) the pic I did, rather than the beautiful Alexandra. In other cases, like Hermione Baddeley, I simply had no choice. I searched and searched and could only come up with a couple of very tiny photos that just weren't that good. So the Mary Poppins DVD came out and I took a screen cap!

And yet the photo of Hermione really works - as does the one of Imogene Coca. Laughter was so much a part of their gift to us. If I were to be remembered after my death, I'd want it to be an image of me laughing.
I really appreciate your saying that, Moony. There have been many, many times when I just couldn't find a typical 'glamour shot', but I'd run across a candid photo showing a big laugh and I just couldn't resist. Last month one of my favorite actresses was pictured this way. Melina Mercouri was a beautiful woman but I always picture her having this incredible spirit and joie d'vivre. That image I used certainly wasn't glamorous, but it was definitely spirited - just like her.
Such a bevy of beauties! Thanks, Mamie, for those gorgeous photos.
I knew November was a stellar month... that's why I picked it for myself!
Mamie, thanks so much for this!
