Pat Robertson is crazy, but not THAT crazy

WHOOPS. UPDATED SUBJ LINE.
Sorry. This was circulating everywhere today, and I was indeed gulible enough to believe it (as did many, in my weak defense.)
I suppose it's still funny. I suppose, stated more soberly, that a man who'd on the air opine taking out the leader of a country could say something this ugly and preposterous.
“By choosing an avowed lesbian for this national event, these Hollywood elites have clearly invited God’s wrath,” Robertson said on “The 700 Club” on Sunday. “Is it any surprise that the Almighty chose to strike at Miss Degeneres’ hometown?”
Robertson also noted that the last time Degeneres hosted the Emmys, in 2001, the September 11 terrorism attacks took place shortly before the ceremony.
“This is the second time in a row that God has invoked a disaster shortly before lesbian Ellen Degeneres hosted the Emmy Awards,” Robertson explained to his approximately one million viewers. “America is waiting for her to apologize for the death and destruction that her sexual deviance has brought onto this great nation.”

"In order to avoid further tragedy, Robertson called not only for the Television Academy to find a new heterosexual host, but to bar all homosexuals and bisexuals from taking part in the ceremony.
He said employees at the Christian Broadcasting Network had put together a list of 283 nominees, presenters, and invited guests at the Emmys known to be of sexually deviant persuasions.
“God already allows one awards show to promote the homosexual agenda,” Robertson declared. “But clearly He will not tolerate such sinful behavior to spread beyond the Tonys.”
Anyone know where I can get my hands on this list?

Actually, you can make this stuff up. This is a joke. Robertson's crazy but he's not stupid. Check out the other articles on the site. It's a joke.
Did you know the word gullible wasn't in the dictionary? C'mon people....

Don't feel bad, auggie....some pretty outrageous things have come out of that man's mouth. It's not too much of a stretch to think he could have said this. Chalk it up to 'you can't believe everything you read', esp on the internet

Posted: 9/12/05 at 10:11amand actually by doing a search, you would have seen that a similar search was already posted here last week, and found out to be a hoax then

I knew from reading it initially that it was a hoax, but the sad thing is that these psychos have said just enough crazy things to plant a seed of doubt in the back of my mind.

Posted: 9/12/05 at 11:44amI also knew it was a joke going in...but like Patronus said, even if it were true, it ain't even the craziest thing he's said TODAY!

Posted: 9/12/05 at 1:18pmMy question is--even if Robertson didn't say this, who did? And is it really "just a joke"? It's rather offensive.
#14offensive, yeah, but oddly consistent
Posted: 9/12/05 at 4:47pmIt's an Onion-styled send-up of his brand of offensive remarks. I can imagine hearing this on Weekend Update, actually. What's startling is how many of us (I'm not the only dupe) quickly thought it POSSIBLE he might've uttered it, in light of the climate we live in, and in light of Robertson's past remarks. In a way, that's revelatory. I applaud all of you who knew intantly that it was a contrivance, but remember what he said after 9/11.

Posted: 9/13/05 at 6:45amI miss so much, Papa. And as I went to the thread, I started to think there was a real quote looming, perhaps some tidbit that had inspired the hoax. I suppose "fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me applies." Or something. It was startling the number of people who emailed me yesterday with the material. Urban legend 101. And the number -- including friends -- who thought me the dumbest post on the block for not knowing it's a put-on. I've been Dan Rathered.

Posted: 9/13/05 at 9:21amwell, auggie, i think pat inspired it just with his nature.

Posted: 9/13/05 at 10:40amNo doubt, papa. Again, don't feel bad about this, auggie. When I first saw this (awhile back, because I'm from and have family in Katrina country, so I've been reading everything), I intially said to myself "No, he didn't..." because it's o so likely he could, but then as I read on and on, I realised that no, he didn't. I'd be lying if I said it didn't have me for a minute or two, though.
