"Friendly fire" is an oxymoron. Right up there with "plastic glass" and (sorry Papa) "compassionate conservative."

Friendly fire admits it was our guys.... but it's as if using nicer sounding words makes the reality less awful.
Semantics fascinate me. I work in the field of organ transplants. We no longer "harvest" organs...we "procure them. And the poor organ donor is now referred to as a deceased donor rather than cadaveric donor. Nicer sounding, maybe, but it doesn't change the fact that the person is dead. (Okay...maybe the original terms were just a little dark...this might not be the best possible analogy...)

The euphemism di giorno is that they "...paid the ultimate price..." which always manages to sound like something out of a Syms commerical, referring to a gradual mark-down on a suit. (Course, right after Karl taught him how to say that, he blurted "nobody likes to see dead people on TV" in an unguarded -- unscripted -- moment.) The D word is never used.
