So Congress is investigating the story that Pat Tillman was killed by "friendly fire" and not Afghan rebels as the Pentagon originally claimed. And guess what the White House is doing to resolve the matter?

I have to admit that it bothers me that the Pat Tillman case gets so much attention just because of who he was. Friendly fire incidents happen all the time. All cases should be examined.

It's not about the friendly fire. It's about the fact that the administration lied about his death to whomp up enthusiasm for their war. Don't you think that's unconscionable, Yawper?

Exactly. The Pentagon needed a poster boy, which Tillman provided in spades: a wealthy NFL player who gave up everything to defend his country -- what better could they ask from Central Casting?

Then it all goes wrong, and suddenly "we uh dont really want to talk about it". Right.

Tillman's case is getting celebrity treatment by the media.

The Pentagon/admin lied left and right about Jessica Lynch, too. She herself said so, but that's not getting as much attention.

The Lynch case is getting just as much attention, especially since Lynch herself has come out with statements about what really happened.

But the key difference is: TILLMAN DIED. And the Shrub and the Pentagon are desperately covering up WHY. Yes, others have died over there because of "friendly fire", but the government made Tillman into a media event as long as he served their needs. He was a high profile sports celebrity, perfect for marketing the war to a generation of potential cannon fodder that worships high profile sports celebrities.

Dont blame the media on this one. If anything, the media was just as gullible as the rest of us. The government knew what was going on and manipulated it to serve its own ends for its idiotic little "war on terror".

Our Governor (D) has been ordering flags to half staff every time a soldier from the state gets killed. She's gotten some backlash for it.
