Bravo!
With midterm elections coming up and Bush's numbers in the tanker this should not be too much of a surprise.

They did get a majority, still (for shame). Just not enough to override the fillibuster.
Who cares? I just got excited that enough senators voted with their eyes on the Bill of Rights to prevent this ridiculous act from becoming a permanent fixture in our country!
The excesses of this Orwellian-named Patriot Act were fascist and un-American from the very beginning.
I've said this before, but this is how it went with Watergate: First the public realizes the president's wrongdoings, then the press turns on him, then the Congressional Democrats find the courage to speak out, and finally the Congressional Republicans develop a conscience.
May 2006 be a year filled with indictments, resignations and articles of impeachment...and HAPPY DANCES!

PJ, I am not a cowboy, but please save me a dance!
This is a great day for freedom and liberty!
As an American citizen and especially as a librarian and member of the ALA I applaud the Senate! And dance a happy dance!
It's about time.
Another blow to the Bush presidency - GOOD!
One of the plots foiled by the dead patriot act was a plot to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge
Yeah we would be much better to have the bridge in pieces in the water & thousands dead. We are asking to get hit again & unfortunately it may take another 9/11 to wake us up again
I would rather be alive with a few of my rights alledgedly curtailed than dead as a doornail with all my rights intact. I now expect the brickbats to fly but that's the way it goes
Oh Roxy - "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety." Ben Franklin.
If we have another 9/11 it's because we wasted our resources attacking a country that was no threat to us - Al-Qaeda wasn't in Iraq before , but it sure is now.
Fantastic news. The Patriot Act shouldn't have been passed in its current form in the first place, had our legislators actually read it in its entirety and not voted in fear of political retribution by a hypersensitized post 9/11 public. The act had good intentions, perhaps, but there have been too many problems with the way that it has been put to use.
I feel slightly guilty about being so gleeful about seeing the Bush administration go down in flames... and then I stop to think about it, and I don't at all.
I have to admit I get a kick out of the corrupt Bush administration going down in flames too.
