That's a broad question. There's lying to register for websites or get into R-rated movies, and there's lying and saying you're perpetually 29, and there's lies that happen for any number of other reasons, not all of them so benign. I doubt people lie about their age for reasons that are different than the ones for lies in other subjects- they do it for some benefit, or out of fear or insecurity.

I do sometimes feel awkward when I am talking to someone who is slightly older than me. I just don't want them to judge me because I look young. Everyone always tells me I look eighteen. I HATE that!

I've never looked younger than I am. I usually get somewhere around the 25ish age range. I'm 19.

My grandma did her whole life
we think she might have been 82 when she died, but just to be sure, we marked her birthdate as 19??

I remember when I was a kid back in the 70s, my uncle telling me, "Never trust anyone over 30".
I have a friend who recently joined the cast of a hit show with a predominantly young cast, and he was told by one of the producers, "Don't tell anyone you're over 50, no-one will want to talk to you."
