I have a pretty terrible sinus infection and sound very nasal.
Like Fran! I have to do a voice over today, and sound terrible!
Any sure fire tips to bring back my broadcast voice?
I am doing the VO at 2.
Your help is appreciated,
Corine

If you have time, get a eucalyptus or peppermint shower gel (Whole Foods sells Dr. Bronners which is pretty good - otherwise, pick up a bottle of J&J baby wash - "for babies with colds" in the baby aisle at your nearest drugstore). Take a long hot shower using this instead of your regular soap, and it will probably help clear out some of the congestion.

Drink LOTS (and LOTS!) of room temperature water throughout the day. Speak as little as possible unless/until you have to.

A lot the borad members here swear by Throat Coat as well, which will probably help with your voice. I'm not sure where to find it, though. Anyone? Bueller?

Also try a Neti pot. There is one available at drugstores called "SinuCleanse" (I think that's the name.).

The idea of it is unsettling, but it seems to really work well in cleaning out nasal passages.

If you have a humidifier put it on (if you can deal with the heat...) but even better is to get a humidifier specifically for your mouth and nose. The only place I've seen them, though, is at my voice therapist's office. So maybe call up some voice pathologists in the area and see if they carry them?

Am I cut out to spend my time this way?

To clean out your sinuses you can also put hot water in a pot/bowl and put your face just above the water and put a towel over your head to keep the hot air in. Take deep breaths and relax.

In the shower, you can also squeeze the top of your nose and squeeze down. It feels good, and loosens up your nose.

I wish I could help more, break a leg! re: Performers. I need your advice.

Also, Saline nasal spray works wonders in addition to steaming.

I'm a huge fan of the brand Zicam for nasal sprays and swabs. I had bad allergies hit me before I opened Jerby: Fully Loaded in April. It knocked them right out.

Bring a big pot of water to a boil. Toss in 10-12 caffeinated tea bags (cheapo ones-- Lipton's fine). Let it steep for a couple of minutes. Set a timer for 15-20 minutes, take pot off stove, put on table on trivet on table at a comfortable height, put towel over your head and breathe in tea vapors. Careful not to singe yourself on the steam, but it sure clears the sinuses.
