Make sure you tell people how much it will cost them out of their paycheck& to think about Canada & the UK as models of Universal Healthcare

Spain is actually the best model and what the expense is depends upon how it's set up.

Guaranteed it will be a hell of a lot more than what you may be paying now. Add to that the fact that if the government does it, it will be much more screwed up than it is now

Don't know where you work, but where I work the medical insurance premium deduction for family coverage, AFTER the employer kicks in his share, is over $700 per month - that's almost a quarter of these guys' gross pay for the same period.

Once the government gets involved, the cost will keep escalating & the services will worsen

For a family , my wife pays about $ 200 per month

Your wife pays $200/month and your employer is paying the rest. That employer expense is why more and more employers are reducing or eliminating coverage altogether.

Part of the problem is that most employees don't know how much their coverage totally costs because the employers are carrying so much of it.

How much do you think it would cost initially under a government plan ?

Do you seriously believe services will be better or the same ?

In some aspects services will be better - no more/substantially fewer non-emergencies in ER, better pre-natal care leading to fewer complications at birth, much more preventative medicine being sought instead of waiting until the problem progresses to more serious stages, etc.

There's no reason for services to get worse. It's not as if doctors suddenly are no longer doctors or the population has suddenly boomed so there are more people seeking services overall.

Went to Canada this summer & some people we spoke to were not thrilled with paying about 51 % in taxes and were not thrilled with Universal Healthcare

The government comes in & costs always skyrocket & services get worse. Hopefully, this will not come into being in my lifetime

"There's no reason for services to get worse. It's not as if doctors suddenly are no longer doctors or the population has suddenly boomed so there are more people seeking services overall."

Service definitely will get worse. There is a profit motive for doctors. They are very well paid. Under a socialized system, doctors have no reason to be competitive so people who would ordinarily become doctors may choose another profession. Also with no profit incentive, researchers and pharmaceutical companies have no reason to put money into research and development, so new procedures will not be discovered. Why do you think so many rich people come to the US for surgery?

Furthermore, the government can only allow so much healthcare per month/year because there's not enough money in the Treasury to reimburse the clinics. The UK has discovered that socialized medicine causes long lines and actually works against people staying healthy.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

If you can't afford health care, It is YOUR OWN FAULT. If you are old and didn't prepare for aging - OH WELL. If you had an accident and or came down with an unexpected disease - TOUGH.

Health Care, Social Security, Public Education are cruches. If you can't pay for health care, feeding yourself in your old age or putting yourself through school. I guess you should have stayed healthy, prepared, been born to parents who could afford educating you.

Tell that to the people that work minimum wage jobs that do not offer it so you can have cheap fast food. Tell that to the people that clean hotels, buildings, landscapers so that your city, work and home are nice and clean. I'm sure it's their own fault.

I do not mean to say the whatever system is in place elsewhere works. But our system doesn't work either. How is it possible that there are so many Americans without basic health insurance. I would like to see TRUE change... not adopt someone else's flawed system, or continue with this one because, well, I have health insurance and who gives a crap about those who don't.
