My school was chosen as one of the two universities to test out Phantom of the Opera this year. I have been racking my brain thinking of songs to audition with and I honestly can't. They want two songs in the style of the show (one up-tempo, one ballad), sixteen bars, NO Italian.
Can anyone help?

It shows off a soprano, but if your not a coloratura or lyrical might not be the best choice. Also that song is very popular. Somewhere from West Side. Look into some songs by Leonard Bernstein. He wrote some stuff legit sopranos. Gilbert and Sullivan have great stuff for sopranos and nice mixture of ballad and uptempo. Green Finch Linet bird form Sweeney. You have got plenty of options. Find something you feel comfortable with and can nail.

Posted: 8/28/07 at 3:53pmIf you are comfortable with it, sing it well, and fits the style. It would be okay. Good advice, I have gotten is the first audition is to hear how good your voice, callbacks is to see if you can sing the music and fit the part.

HAHA!So true...
My vote is on I Remember from Evening Primrose, and then Greenfinch too.
