Hello everyone, I'm currently studying vocal performance at IU's Jacob School of Music and I have been cast into the chorus of Philip Glass' Akhnaten. I was curious if anyone had seen it, and if they had, what the experience was like. Just curious, I know Philip Glass' operas are quite unique.

This is a favorite of mine, but have never seen a production. It is not performed very often. There are, or were, some youtube vids of a few scenes from different productions.
The only complete recording I know of is the Stuttgart State Opera with Paul Essman in the title role.
I also love the "Songs from the Trilogy" compilation where you can compare the three operas. The selections from Ankhaten are from the same recording from Stuttgart.
"Window of Appearances" is one of my all time favorite pieces. It never fails to thrill me.
Best of luck...it sounds like fun! The costumes may be skimpy tho.

I was part of the acting ensemble, and we were onstage most of the performance. I specifically remember the 2nd Act where the stage was covered in sand, and we all made little sand villages that were then crushed to represent the destruction of the empire. And yes, the costumes were skimpy! If you want more info, feel free to send a PM ... I'll try to jog my memory, but it was a long time ago.
