Posted: 4/26/05 at 9:33pmI started in Kindergarten. I NEVER looked forward to practicing, and I still don't. But nowadways, I really appreciate the fact that I continued playing it. Just keep it up! It's good that you have the patience to sit there and practice.

Posted: 4/26/05 at 9:58pmI stopped really advancing in skill by freshman year of high school (not enough time to practice), but I'm glad I got past my whiny "I don't wanna practice" phase years earlier and kept at it.

Posted: 4/26/05 at 10:04pmI've been playing for about six years -- being able to play piano helps later if you're looking to pursue a career in music.

Posted: 4/26/05 at 10:06pmi played for 6 years and quit this year. I hated the teacher and absolutely hated practicing. I do sit down and play the music i have. I got the wicked music a few months ago and i can play it. I am happy i started playing and now i know a lot of music theory and other stuff. Go for it and wow thats amazing you want to practice. If you want to then definetly go for it.

Posted: 4/26/05 at 10:06pmDefinitely. I play violin, guitar, and sing, other than piano. But piano DEFINITELY helped everything else. It really helped that I could already read treble clef for piano and guitar and it's really helping my solfege along for vocals. I'm told my pitch is pretty good for an early start as well. Again, I'm pretty sure that it's the piano that helped me. It's a good skill to carry along.

Posted: 4/26/05 at 10:08pmMy voice and piano teachers told me that piano helped me a lot with my singing. I started piano two years before, and it definitely helped my sight singing.

Posted: 4/27/05 at 12:04amI stared lessons at age 10 and stopped at 14 - my family moved and I never bothered finding a new teacher - I knew I was never going to be a concert pianist. I continued "self-teaching". When I was in college I took a course in jazz improvistation. I've been working as a musical director/pianist for the past 30 years. The 4 years of formal lessons was enough for me.

Posted: 4/27/05 at 10:09pmI have been playing piano for 11 years. However, I am FAR from good. I don't have time to practice the way I should. When I practice, I can be pretty good, unless I am in front of a crowd/judge, in which case I start to shake and do horribly. *sigh* I guess I will have to resign myself to never being a concert pianist...
