I am not an expert, but I believe that red sauce that is traditionally put on pizza is sweeter than a marinara.

I hate red sauce, so I guess I should shut up.

I think spaghetti sauce usually has vegetables and/or meat in it, while marinara doesn't.

I think marinara has a lot of garlic in it.

In Australia, marinara means it has seafood in it (Correct me if I'm wrong, fellow aussies) so I have no idea.

There really is not much difference between Marinara sauce and Pizza sauce. Pizza has more oregano; but both are "quick" sauces, and both can be served over spaghetti. Marinara and pizza sauces contain no meats. They also contains no seafood. Marinara's name is from Naples when the sailors docked and the sauce was made quickly. True spaghetti sauce is slow-cooked and gets its flavor from meats like chicken or pork or both.

I've come to notice that marinara sauce seems to be thinner than a normal spaghetti sauce?

If you eat pasta every day you'll be the size of a blimp.

Being Italian, this thread makes me want to cry into my sauce!

I feel your pain, WonderBoy.

Marinara sauce is the spiciest (almost tangy) of the three, made with garlic, onions, and oregano. Pizza sauce is the blandest of the three, in my opinion, and spaghetti sauce is sweeter and thicker (and more seasoned) than pizza sauce. This is generally speaking, of course. Some pizza sauces are sweeter, and some pasta sauces are just over-the-top. My mother thinks that marinara sauce is a subset of the traditional Italian sauces (AKA the over-the-top ones).
