For my second semester acting class I need to bring in a 10-minute scene with characters under 30 from a play written after 1895 but set before 1940. I'd like to do something that isn't really popular...if anyone has some suggestions for plays to look for, feedback would DEFINITELY be appreciated!
Thanks!
Though both popular, Our Town and The Matchmaker are both in that time period, I believe. I'll post others if I can think of them.
plays by Chekov, Ibsen,
Tovarich might be a good one

unfortunately, that was written after 1940, but the play it's based on "my sister Eileen" would be good, though I don't know it's exact date.
your original post says:
"plays written after 1895 but SET before 1940" - does that mean it can be written today just SET before the 40's?
Pullman Car Hiawatha - Wilder
20th Century - Ben Hecht
Dancing at Lughnasa - Friel

Yes, it can be written today, just as long as it takes place before the 40s
ohhhh I see, sorry about that
