With the MTA bailout almost a reality, it will really be interesting with the aftermath of it
With fares scheduled to go up twice in 4 years, we will be paying the same thing we would have paid under the doomsday budget by 2014. What will devastate the city is the payroll tax. Why will companies, especially big ones, add employees when it will cost them more. They will save not only salary but the tax by cutting employees. Other businesses will simply move out. The next time they(the legislature) need money they will up the tax. This will really cause a lot of unemployment. If you expect a raise, your raise will go to pay the payroll tax.Great time to impose a payroll tax- during a recession.A year from now, the NYS unemployment rate will tell it all.
Boy, will we save a lot of money this way. Forget about the extra car registration costs & the added cost of a taxi.
