Does anyone know of any good free programs to block pop ups? I have adaware, but it doesn't seem to be helping with these for some reason. It's getting mighty damn annoying.

My brother installed something called 'pop-up stopper' on our system, but I have no idea how to find it. That is what it's called on my screen, and it seems to work really well.

I have the Google toolbar - it's awesome. I've got 3334 pop-ups blocked.

Google Toolbar. 9502 ads blocked. re: Pop Up Problem

Also, use Ad-Aware and Spybot: Search & Destroy to make sure there's no adware programs running on your computer and creating these pop-ups. Updated On: 9/8/04 at 09:10 PM

I used to have the Google Toolbar. It worked very well. Now I have Mozilla Firefox, and I think there's a pop-up blocker in the program. re: Pop Up Problem

I wish there was just some function on your computer like:

"Would you like to disable popups?"
Yes
No

So you don't have to go out and buy software. I had the same problem, so I used a Netscape browser and that has helped a lot.

It isn't that simple, millie. Lots of popups are perfectly legitimate and are required for the proper functioning of websites. And the people who program pop-up ads are bastards. They don't care about your convenience- they want to inconvenience you and delay you as long as possible at their ad so you'll ahve to pay attention to it. Bastards. But I already said that, didn't I?

I need to sleep.

As Millie said, netscape works great...also, I dind't know this but if you leave your computer on w/ a webpage up it leaves the connection "wide open" and that's how you can get a lot of pop ups and computer "bugs"

I just have norton anti-virus and that stops EVERYTHING from coming onto your computer. The only downside is that I can't partake in the wonderful BWW.com chatrooms, b/c my comp wont let me...I am missing out on so much!

That's why I like the Google toolbar - you can enable pop-ups if you want to do the bww.com chat, or whatever.

Strange, LittleFish. I have Norton and I can use the chat room- it sounds like a weird thing for an anti-virus program to be blocking. If you have a pop-up blocker, that's the more likely culprit.

Yeah...I think I do have a popup blocker, but b/c I am not at all computer savvy, I have no clue how to turn it off for when I was to do the BWW chat....anyone know???

You think you have one? Do you know which one it is? try holding the control button as you open the chat room- that works for the Google blocker, at least, and probably others.
