The Pope is just the self-elevated Bishop of Rome and has no real authority beyond being one of a myriad of Bishops in the catholic faith. Every Bishop in the Anglican/Episcopal Church is of the same level of priesthood as the Pope.

Rediculous to think a line about Peter, "on this rock I build my church" as justifying the power-grab of a popedom.

The Roman Catholics I've been around just don't follow the papal dictates.

Don't think that one-sixth are a bunch of sheep.

nom - may I assume that the Catholics you've been around are in the US? They barely comprise a minority of the Church right now. Most of the demographic are in Latin America (especially South America) and Africa - with real incursion into the Far East.

Most of them are poor, most of them are rabidly conservative and most of them swallow hook, line and sinker the Roman Rule.

Hey, at least his intentions are good. Granted, the Catholic church hasnt always been the sharpest knife in the drawer, but at least *someone* is trying to say the right thing. Can we not just accept it that way?

Yeah, mainly American Catholics, DG, and most of them really fed up with the Church and furious about the child molesting and ignore its stance on birth control and women entirely.

I don't blame the pope or any Christian for speaking up about the protection of Christians in Iraq or anywhere else in the Middle East because they are brutalized, suffer major discrimination and are murdered there. Look how the Lebanese, Egyptian and other Arab Christians have had to flee. Also in Africa, even Nigeria, a country with a huge Christian population--the priests are often murdered by Muslims there.

The Turkish Moslems murdered something like 1,000,000 Christians most in the North of their country in the 20th century. They are still trying to pretend that the genocide never happened. And I don't think they have left the land grab and occupation of northern Cyprus yet. No wonder member states of the E.U. don't want Turkey to join.
