Prayers for a little buddy of mine, please. UPDATE!

My friend Ryan (he's in the picture section of my blanket website in my signature) went in for heart surgery today at about 10 EST. He'll be in surgery for about 10-12 hours. Please pray for him and his family.

UPDATE!
His carepage was updated by his dad. As of 1:00 they wil soon be able to start the procedure after getting to his heart. The surgeon thinks it may be a shorter surgery than origanally though, only lasting 6-8 hours.

another update on his page... they have run into a complication and he will have to have surgery tomarrow morning as well to repair his diaphram, since they had to cut it to get to his heart. ._. They can't remove his breathing tube untill the repair is made.

at 3:00, going into hour number 5, they are able to put him on by-pass to see what repairs need to be made.

Right from Ryan's journal:
The surgeon has completed the Bi-Directional Glenn Shunt and has reached the valve. He is pleased with what he sees and is attempting to repair the valve vs replacing it with an aritificial valve. He originally did not think that would be an option but it does look as if it might be repairable.

They are going to try again to repair his valve, since the first try was not as successfull as they wanted. If that doesn't work, they will try something different to by-pass his entire ventricle.

This is right form Ryan's journal:
The surgeon completed the second attempt at a repair and the results look excellent. There is minimal leakage. Ryan is off of the Heart-Lung Machine. The surgeon has decided to add the pacemaker wires to Ryan's heart at this point so that if Ryan should need a pacemaker in the future they will will not need to open up his chest again to add the pacemaker. All they will need to do is add the pacemaker itself under the skin. Once the pacmaker wires have been added they just need to wait and see that Ryan doesn't develop any bleeding or any other issues. So they will keep him in th OR for a little while before they move him up to ICU. They have his surgery scheduled to repair his diaphragm tomorrow for 10:00 but they are going to wait until tomorrow morning to make the final decision on that. But right now everything looks great and at this point it is the best result we could have hoped for. Thank you to everyone for all or your prayers and support. It has been an extremely long and idfficult day and I don't know if we could have done it without everyone's prayers and support.

Prayers sent. That picture of him in the blanket is heartbreaking.

A colleague of mine has a 12-year-old son who's been battling a brain tumor. The bravery of children in the face of medical battles that would crush a grown-up makes all our troubles seem conquerable.

Here's hoping the day brings angels and miracles.

Sending my prayers as well. I'm glad to hear it is going well. My father had a valve change back in 2000. He's been on a pacemaker for over 30 years. I love the website! Your kindness and dedication are inspiring.
