You will need a passport (and a visa in some countries). Always bring a passport/document carrier or money belt with you and never take it off. http://www.easygoing.com/exp.html.
Very important: Make copies of all your documents (passport, visa, credit cards, tickets.). Leave copies with a family member. Use this link to check travel warnings in the areas you will vist, http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis_pa_tw_1168.html. Always have Consulate information in the states and where you are traveling to. If you have further questions, please contact a travel agency for further information.

Posted: 10/16/05 at 11:11amThe most helpful advice I received for traveling overseas is to lay out all the clothes and all the money you plan to bring. Then take half the clothes and twice the cash. With that advice, you can never go wrong.

Since many, many high school students find themselves going overseas to further their education before they graduate, and sometimes as unenthusiastic tag-alongs to their parents' vacation plans, the Student Board has many resources to help you with your homework question.

Now that we're here in the proper forum, I'll give you some suggestions from my own experiences traveling overseas.
1. Follow vbplayer's advice
2. Follow costume's advice
3. Keep the cash in your bank at home and plan to use your debit card as much as possible. While there are currency exchange fees, it is much more secure than carrying around loads of foreign currency.
4. Remember that no one knows you, other than your traveling companions, so you can wear the same things more than once.

Visit the US Customs website and read the list of restrictions for items you can and cannot being on the plane or overseas. It will save you A LOT of time at the airport!

Once upon a time I was a shy young thing
Could barely walk and talk so much as dance and sing
But let me hit that stage I wanna take my bow
Cause Mama I'm a big girl now!

Posted: 10/18/05 at 1:30amIf you are planning on using any electrical devices you will need to get a converter. Also, don't carry all your money in one place, if your wallet gets stolen, you won't be completely screwed. It depends on where you're going what you'll need to do. Definitely RESEARCH. Get to know everything about the country. What areas are safe for tourists, some countries have definite "no no" areas where your safety may be compromised if you don't know what you're doing. Figure out the critical phrases if there's a language barrier you may need an english/other language dictionary. You really just want to be familiar with the area you're going to be visiting.
