Prevacid/PPI drugs/DG licorice

The doc has me on Prevacid now--have been taking 60 mg/day for five days. I hate it. It sort of helps with GERD, but I am SO not digesting my food at all. It all seems like I'm forcing an imbalance on my body, here. There has to be a better way.

Attempts to contact the doctor have all resulted in a busy signal, but I really want to stop taking the Prevacid and try something called deglycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL).

Has anyone else gone through this or tried DGL? GERD is very common among singers. There has to be something better to do than encourage the body not to absorb nutrients and possibly foster bad conditions that stomach acid is supposed to control.
