You're the one who doesn't understand.
What you are calling "glee" is not happiness that Foley abused the trust of the boys and their families. How dare you imply that, even of the Democratic leadership!
The ONLY satisfaction is the satisfaction that Miss Pennywise described so eloquently: that of hypocrisy revealed.
The hypocrisy of a Republican Party that claimed to have a moral upper hand while sacrificing the pages for the Party's power.
For Republicans to spin it that Democrats are gleeful over the Foley scandal is unconscionable and simply an effort to shirk responsibility.

Posted: 10/19/06 at 1:28pmAre Republicans spinning it that way? I haven't heard that. But, I've no doubt they will. I'm telling you my take, based on first-hand exposure to it, and I am no Republican!. I know what I'm hearing. The Republicans seem to be like chickens without their heads.

That's just a lie or a blatant misrepresentation. No Democrat is gleeful that the page system was abused.
Go find a real argument.

Posted: 10/19/06 at 2:03pmThe whole Foley situation and the layers underneath really expose how backwards the way a lot of conservatives look at gays (or want the public to look at gays) is. It seems obvious to me that in most situations where there's innapropriate or illegal sexual activity going on between an older man and someone younger (in the Boy Scouts, the Catholic Church, etc) it's almost always someone who doesn't openly identify themselves as a gay man who's doing it. Secretly screwed up guys gettting their hands on kids is apparently not too big of a deal to many conservatives a lot of the time, but actually dealing with gays directly by letting them be allowed to be a part of groups like the Boy Scouts or in the Church or in politics seems to often not be.

"He taught us to drive a stick-shift..."
LOL! I'll bet he did!
I was an altar boy and I am very upset that no one ever abused me. I could be a very rich man right now if only Father had touched me. Maybe I should sue anyway. I think I'm starting to remember this one time when I was in my little altar boy dress....

Someone above mentioned good & bad democrats. If you read the posts on this board you would think there is no such thing as a bad democrat or a good republican. I have yet to hear anyone on the other side of the aisle basically say they believe in the 2 party sytem & that many good republicans exist
I live in NY & a bad democrat is Sheldon Silver NY State lawmaker. He continually blocks tort reform & one would wonder why.He is on the payroll of a law firm that brings many frivilous lawsuits against the city & state. It costs untold millions but he basically controls his chamber & his members move in lockstep behind him.Bye bye tort reform. He just, singlehandedly , blocked approval to construct a new Penn Station. Say goodbye to thousands of jobs. He wants the Madison Square Garden torn down & replaced & until that happens he will hold up Penn Station. In the 70's, while trying to have a grand old theater designated as a landmark. despite 8,000 signatures on petitions to do just that, the than democrats in power stopped it spearheaded by a Queens borough president who later committed suicide as he was being involved in a parking violation scandal
The whole GOP should not be condemmed for Foley. There was a double standard in the 80's when a Democratic house member actually had sex with a page. He got a reprimand but than politics was not so poisoned as it is now
I believe, as in a previous post, we should leave Iraq . GWB has failed miserably in many areas. If you want to hold his party responsible for it ( I believe many good GOP members will be thrown to the wolves here) so be it. In the words of a wise man: let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
