I'm actually VERY impressed and kind of proud of San Francisco. This was clearly a very well-planned and very well-initiated peaceful protest. Once again, SF protesters have raised the bar on what "making a statement" can look like.

I mean, aside from putting themselves in danger (and the lives of the crew-men who took down the banners), it was still really cool. PS: I'll be in SF April 9-13, 2008!

Long and the short: A lot of people are protesting against The Olympics being in China, when the communist-country has such a bad track-record with human rights and their neighboring Tibet.

San Francisco is the only American city through which the Olympic Flame will be run, on Wednesday March 9, 2008. I hope nothing crazy happens...

Just a few days ago, the flame was "successfully" extinguished by side-line protesters in Paris and London. I'm not a fan of that. You can shout and wave banners, but to me, there's something fundamentally unfair about snuffing-out (though temporarily) a symbol of tradition.

I love The Olympic Games. Not only to represent American pride and athleticism and my penchant for competition, but because of its unifying abilities.

Snuffing-out the traditional Olympic flame as a political-act protesting China's human rights record, would be like smashing the glass at a Jewish wedding before the groom and bride as a political-act against the war on the Gaza Strip.

That is ridiculous! How would Tibet like it if we went over there and climbed their mountains or something?
