Ok, so I'm graduating tomorrow and I'm kind of devastated, luckily my prom is on Friday so that'll cheer me up a bit.
Anyway, I thought it would be fun to start a thread were we could all share our Prom stories; heartwarming stories, wild stories, outfits, music, venues, themes...
Mine is going to be a Masquerade Ball, so I'm really excited!

Posted: 5/21/13 at 2:28pmI went to four senior proms 25 years ago (and only paid for one), so it's all a blur. One of the benefits of being openly gay in high school was being invited to all the dances. A safe date who will actually want to dance. Mothers loved me.

Posted: 5/21/13 at 2:33pmFor my senior prom, my friend had a mint colored dress and I got a turquoise one of a completely different style. She didn't talk to me for two days after I got it.

My high school prom was held at the Playboy Club in Miami. The car parkers stole all but one of the joints my date locked in the glove compartment, but left one for us to share.
Ah, the 70s! Even thieves were nicer then.

I took the only guy I knew would dance. He was a good friend from church. We looked adorable. We've both since come out of the closet.

How cool Gav!!
I feel your pain Bogges! People can get really paranoid about their prom attire, myself included! I was supposed to go with my best friend, I gave her the first and most spectacular proposal of the season, and she said yes with the condition that I had to wear a black tux, which I blatantly refused to do. Since I wasn't willing to compromise on my sequined suit, she's not my date anymore and we barely speak to each other.

Posted: 5/21/13 at 4:06pmI do remember one cute thing. This was around the time schools were starting to sponsor all-night after-prom parties in an initiative to reduce drunk-driving. They had door prizes, a mock casino, an auction, dancing, tons of food and loads of activities all over the school. It was actually a lot of fun. I was on the committee to collect prizes and we got a ton of stuff and lots of cash prizes. Anyway, what they kept a secret and what I found so cute was the idea to have the teachers taxi the students from their cars to the red carpet in dolled up golf carts. There was just something so fun and hilarious and ultimately sweet in the gesture. I recognized how much effort the adults put into making the night special for us.

I went to both my junior and senior prom alone. It's not that I didn't want a date, but I was too shy to ask anyone and of course, nobody ever asked me. But, I didn't want to miss out on them.
Junior prom was more fun though. It was a better venue and I had a better time w/ my friends.

Matt, that after party does sound really cute and fun.
I don't have any really exciting stories. Our school had a Jr/Sr prom and I went all 4 years. My freshman year a really popular (but dumb as a box of rocks) senior asked me and I begged my mom to let me go with him. She finally said ok because she knew his mom.
Upon retrospect, I probably shouldn't have gone. 18 year old boys and 15 year old girls is just 2 big of an age difference. But live and learn.

Posted: 5/21/13 at 5:33pmWell, popular and good looking are pretty much the only qualities a prom date needs to have.

Posted: 5/21/13 at 5:37pmLOL, well he wasn't just a prom date - we dated for a few months. And all I am saying is 18 year old boys expect stuff this 15 year old girl was not ready for yet.

Posted: 5/21/13 at 6:02pmThe after party was actually more fun than the prom itself. Everybody went home to change into casual clothes and then attend the party which lasted until 9 am. There was a second shift of adults that came in to serve breakfast.

Let see...back to 81/82
junior prom: (in retrospect) bad haircut, bad tux, and date who didn't put out.
