"Purple Violets" filming in Manhattan with Wilson, Blair, Burns & Messing

Ed Burns is directing and starring in "Purple Violets" which also stars Debra Messing, Selma Blair and Patrick Wilson.

It is filming around Manhattan. Has anyone seen anything going on?

A poster on Selma's page at IMDB said about the filming of "Purple Violets":

"They are filming right now in the West Village . . I just met Selma Blair and she actually posed for a picture with me. I live around the corner from the filming . . it looks like a rain scene with just her and Patrick Wilson. Today is Nov. 15th . . they are hear through tonight and then probably moving to another location in Manhattan."

Looks like these were taken outside a dressingroom/trailer on the set of "Purple Violets" TODAY (11/15). Looks like Selma and Patrick's characters aren't married (he's not wearing a wedding ring.) The film also stars Debra Messing and Ed Burns (who also directs).

Getty's captions say that they were seen out & about in the West Village and makes it sound like they are actually dating.

Shame on you Getty. It's from the movie set!

Yep. My bestest NYU buddy saw them filming today, but didn't know what the movie was until she went back to her dorm and looked up the actors on IMDB.

I saw them (and HIM specifically) filming in Washington Square Park today. On a bench with a girl, but I don't know which one it was.

And, just got this head's up (thanks to the wonderful person who posted on my BWW blog!)

"I saw your post on broadwayworld.com and I just wanted to let you know that I just saw a film crew setting up on the corner of 18th and 6th ave in Chelsea today (Nov 30) and one of the crew members said they are filming Purple Violets ... hope you find this info helpful."

Tonight on "Will and Grace" is the episode where Grace meets a greeting card writer played by Ed Burns.

This is a chance to see their chemistry---they are in "Purple Violets" with Patrick Wilson and Selma Blair. Ed wrote and directs the film, too.

"Ed Burns and company shooting “Purple Violets” today (November 29) in front of La Esquina at Kenmare St. Almost ran smack into Debra Messing and Selma Blair, who were walking across the street gesturing and talking loudly as the camera followed them at a distance down Cleveland Place. Debra looked lovely with her long hair pulled back and with black-rimmed glasses. Selma is teeny, and looked hip with long black hair and bangs. And Ed Burns was super laid-back, not even caring that many of us were standing next to him on the sidewalk, watching him calmly direct the pair with his typical husky New York accent. Every so often, he’d walk over to Selma and Debra, give them suggestions and crack a joke. And of course, where’s there’s smoke, there’s fire: Infamous paparazzo Steve Sands was there being his usual smarmy self."

Here's some information on the plot of "Purple Violets" from an article in Atlanta Jewish Life Magazine. It is an interview with Debra Messing who co-stars in the film with Patrick Wilson, Selma Blair and Ed Burns (who also wrote and directed it.)

She used her weeks off from Will & Grace last Thanksgiving and Christmas to work on the romantic comedy Purple Violets, opposite writer-director-star Edward Burns.

“It’s the quintessential New York story,” Messing relates. “It’s about four friends who graduated from NYU 12 years earlier with aspirations of being the next great writer/artist and they have achieved varying degrees of success. It’s about art and commerce and selling out and it’s very smart and very funny. It was probably the most fun I’ve ever had doing a film.”

At the Comic Convention in San Diego, Ed Burns was interviewed (his new film "One Missed Call" was introduced there) and one of the topics he discussed with "Purple Violets":

From the Cinematical article:

# He feels that Purple Violets is the best film he's ever made, but he admits it has "absolutely no audience," theatrically.

# Purple Violets will possibly be the first film ever released exclusively on iTunes. Starting October 9th, the film will be available for four weeks on iTunes, and they'll see how the numbers are after that.
