QUEER RISING NOW ACCEPTING DONATIONS AND CO-HOSTS “RIOT!” - A FUNDRAISER DANCE PARTY AT THE STONEWALL INN
Queer Rising, the New York City-based LGBT activist group, is pleased to announce their legitimacy as a nonprofit and capacity to accept donations from the public.
Coinciding with this exciting news, Queer Rising is teaming with New York party promoters, 21st Century Life, for the inaugural “RIOT!” Party – a Fundraiser for Queer Rising – at the historic Stonewall Inn on Saturday, October 9th at 10:00pm.
Queer Rising is a grassroots nonprofit organization that demands full equality for all queer people through direct action. Formed in late 2009 as a response to the New York State Legislature’s denial of same-sex marriage to its constituents, Queer Rising has vowed to give voice to the movement whether those conversations take place in the halls of public buildings, in the offices of elected officials or on the streets of cities across the United States.
“RIOT!” is a new monthly dance party… with a mission! 21st Century Life is teaming with grassroots organizations to raise awareness to the issues facing the LGBT community. “RIOT!” is the place to let loose your angst and learn how to join the fight for equality! DJ Executive Realness will be spinning all night long. $5 suggested donations go directly to Queer Rising. The Stonewall Inn is located at 53 Christopher Street, NYC. (21+ yrs). Notable Queer Rising actions have included members chaining themselves to the entrance of the New York City Marriage Bureau, shutting down the U.S. Armed Forces Building in Times Square, crashing parties and fundraisers for anti-gay New York senators, and demonstrating in Washington D.C. against “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
