Ques About Embossing & Stencils

I am in the process of making invitations and would like some advice on the following:

About embossing on paper (just the design): is it really just squeezing/pressing a heavy object and have the paper in between the design? I have found various stencil designs that I want to use, however I am not willing to sit there and trace the paper over the design. Anyone know of a machine of some sort? And it will be used often so I wouldn't mind spending extra.

Does anyone know if Sizzix is ok?
