I am hoping to attend college in the fall, and originally wanted to study Wildlife Biology - even though the schol only offers Biology asa subject. But, recently, I thought taking my love of the dramatic arts and useless musical theare knowledge and turning it to education. If I were to do this, what would I be majoring in? Theatre AND education? Or are there specific studies one must take to be a Drama teacher?

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

You could easily major in Speech/Theater.

If you teach on the college level you might find this quite rewarding. However, if you choose to teach in high schools, be prepared to wallow in a lifetime of dreadful auditions and lackluster high school musicals. Do you really want that for a career?

Some schools acually have a degree called Theatre Education. Not many do, make sure you ask the schoold you want to attend.

I would love to direct high school musicals

Then don't let DollyPop's bitter view of life stop you.

Go for it! Bring the magic of theatre to kids.

At my school you have to minor in education (you graduate with your teaching certificate) and major in a subject that you want to teach. Depending on where you go, you would probably major in theatre and either minor or double major in education.

Each school does it differently, but at my school we have the college of Ed, where we have areas of specialization. Mine is in creative arts, which includes theatre. I want to teach kindergarten and I would rather learn the fun and interesting things to pass on to my children. Just check with the school and talk to advisors in their education program.
