Question from Student to student

So I've just started High School about 4 weeks ago and I'm thinking of starting a Gay Straight Alliance at my school, since we don't have one. I think it would be really beneficial to the student body to have a group like this but 'm not sure it's a good idea to start this my freshman year and my school isn't the most....open minded if you get what I'm saying. Does anyone here have a GSA at their school or even better, is actively involved in a GSA? I'd really like to hear about your experiances if you have them so I can decide if it would be a good idea to start one.

I'm involved in a similar group at my school. All my experiences have been great, and we have a pretty large number of active members. I am lucky to have a pretty liberal school-district, though. If you do get involved, I think the most important thing that we stress is that we host a "safe place," as in everything said, asked, discussed at the meeting will stay between the members. Plus, sign up is completely anonymous. Just focus on making all people feel welcome and appreciated.
